I’m having unusual problems with clicking links, which I noticed first in the last Newsletter, issue 266. Taking Michael Lasky’s article “Microsoft TechNet for the rest of us” as example, the first link (“column”) is OK, as is the second (“site”). However, the third link just does not work, as is the same for all the subsequent “tips” links.
Extracting links information via the Copy Link Location in Firefox shows the first two (working) links are to:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx
The first non-working link is to:
http://windowssecrets.com/links/jtnvfmajeqcyd/ba26b0h/?url=technet.microsoft.com
The first of the “tips” links, again non-working, is to:
For the record, this is using Firefox v3.6.12, with NoScript and Tab Mix Plus in operation, with Javascript, Java and Flash allowed, on XP.
More information –
1. When I click a non-working link, using the first above as an example, a new blank tab opens, (Untitled) and without a URL in the Goto box.
2. When I copy the link info to a new tab and click return, the URL is loaded, the tab name briefly shows Loading then reverts to a blank tab (Untitled).
3. When I copy the same link info into Opera, I get the following URL loaded:
http://redirectingat.com/?id=1132×654261&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Ftechnet.microsoft.com
and again a blank page. However, when I reduce that to http://technet.microsoft.com there is no problem, as one would expect.
4. When using IE8, I just get Cannot display web page.
I initially thought there may have been something in Tab Mix Plus preventing this operation, but there is nothing I can see there. Also, the fact that Opera and IE8 also do not like the link info seems to rule that out.
Does anyone have any ideas, please?
Whilst I do switch off un-necessary Services, I am fairly sure I have done nothing there which would cause this behaviour.
