    Hi folks,

I quite often want to create a PostScript (.ps) file of something printable. Generally I can use
one of the XP standard postscript printer drivers and select “[x] Print to file”, then change the
prn extension to ps. Sometimes, however, the “[ ] Print to file” option is not available (probably
because of some preference coded into the source document.

Is there any way around this? Perhaps setting up a dummy queue. Or maybe someone
knows of a postscript print driver that can be used directly.

    Thanks for any suggestions,

Try installing PDFCreator. This is a virtual printer that has options to “print” to several  file formats (not just PDF) including .ps files.

It is :free: and opensource, but it will ask if you want to install a toolbar (can’t remember which one) when you install.

You can also try adding the “Generic / Text Only” printer driver in XP.
That can also emulate a “print to file” action. You just need to add it manually
in the Add Printers section and make the “Generic / Text Only” printer driver
“print” to the FILE port, not to any LPT/COM/USB ports.

      Thanks Noel,

I kept postScript driver, but changed it’s port to FILE:
start) printers & faxes) rclik $driver) properties) ports) [x] FILE
