While running Google Chrome (97.0.4692.71) I noticed that there is a new right-click context menu item which says: “Send to System Manufacturer Computer”
At present neither Google or Bing Search give any hits for this phrase.

Nothing seems to happen when you click this option.
Anyone know what it is for and what it is supposed to do?

It appears between two other new options
“Search images with Google Lens” & “Create QR code for this page”
both of which at least seem to explain what they do.

      Doug,

Just updated chrome to same version and this is what I get on a right-click.

      Chrome-RIght-Click

Have you by chance selected any of the Developer features in your settings?

I haven’t changed any flags. It is default on my Chrome 97.0.4692.71 (beta).

According to the article you linked you have to set Flags. As you can see I’m on the Official build and it ain’t there!

Right click the TAB at the top of the page and you will see “send to system manufacturer…”

No Developer options or networking – just a few desktops hanging off a router in my home. But it appears this option is only offered if you are logged into a Google Account – and can display other device options if they are also logged into the same Google Account. Essentially collecting a list of all your devices!!

I usually don’t remain logged into a Google account as it just makes it easier for Google to accumulate identifiable usage and search data – and I do not use the Chrome Sync option either. It seems both Microsoft and Google want to identify and aggregate all your online activities – when you use one of their accounts.

Doug: I’m not sure why yours says “Send to System Manufacturer Computer” unless it is because you don’t have sync turned on and aren’t signed into the same Google account on the other devices that share the same internet connection. I have sync turned on and all my devices, two laptops and two desktops and two Chromebooks and a smartphone, all share the same internet connection through a home WiFi router cable modem combination device and are all signed into my Google account (Google recently made it more cumbersome to sign into and out of your Google account by adding the requirement of receiving a text message for two factor authentication). When I right click I see the words “send to your devices” followed by a right-facing triangle which produces a menu listing all my other devices when I click on it.

In most cases the computer I am working on is the only one of my devices signed into a Google account at that time. And the context menu option disappears if I sign out. I have since seen one example of a device selection menu when I had two computers both logged into the same Google account – with one being this mysterious “System Manufacturer Computer”.

It was the odd wording of “System Manufacturer Computer” that got my attention – as it is not obvious what device that is. I suspect Chrome is trying to refer to its own “current device” as a destination on the local network – but none of my computers have a “Computer Description” entered in the Windows System GUI – they only have the “Computer Name” entries. So maybe Chrome is reverting to a generic network device identification when faced with a blank description entry.
