everytime i start google chrome, a service called WMI Provider Hosts (WmiPrvSE) starts, up to 3 times (since chrome 74, before only 1 WmiPrvSE task started)! and it keeps running up to 30 minutes until it quits again one of these tasks keeps running even much longer! starting thunderbird also triggers this this task. after doing google search, it seems do some network operations or surveillance in companies. so do i really need this service running on a private windows 7 pc?

“Windows Management Instrumentation consists of a set of extensions to the Windows Driver Model that provides an operating system interface through which instrumented components provide information and notification.”

Much depends on the WMI Providers active on your PC, here’s a list of the MS providers, 3rd party software can provide their own triggers.

“If this service is stopped, most Windows-based software will not function properly.
If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.”

If you have a problem with it, you need to identify the process on your computer that’s causing the WMI Provider Host to use so much CPU and update, remove, or disable that process instead. (explains how)
What Is the WMI Provider Host (WmiPrvSE.exe), and Why Is It Using So Much CPU?

how do i prevent chrome from triggering that wmi thingamajigs more than one time? it’s not cpu-usage (usually <0,01 in process explorer), it’s ram usage… before update there was only 1 wmiprvse process triggerd which never used more than 3mb. now there are 2-3 processes triggerd by chrome, one is eating 25-30mb ram, the other two are eating 5-12mb ram. and why does it have to run so long even after chrome (which seems to depend on it) is closed already? does google’s spyware-browser use it to gather even more information from my system? as i have read, wmiprvse.exe is gathering information…

it seems i’m not the only one, there are guys on windows 10 having the same issue with google chrome 74: https://www.tenforums.com/performance-maintenance/131551-wmiprvse-exe-using-high-memory-when-i-use-chrome-normal.html

it seems, google chrome becomes even more malware with every update… as far i have read, chrome seems to be the one and only browser which “needs” that wmiprvise thingamajigs… how do i rollback chrome to 72 to at least limit this process to one single instance using maximum 3mb which it used to be in older versions?
