Relaying and highlighting a blog from Borncity for those who use Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 with either Google Chrome or Brave Browsers.

Apparently popups appear warning users of support for the browser(s) ending and to move to windows 10 for continued support.

To suppress the warning, navigate to the following within regedit and add the following:

    To suppress the Chrome warning:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome]
    “SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning”=dword:00000001

    To suppress the Brave warning:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave]
    “SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning”=dword:00000001

Many thanks to Guenni and those who reported the observation

On out of date systems, one shouldn’t be surfing with unsupported browsers.

Whilst I agree with the obvious, these operating systems are currently in-support.
Akin to the Windows 8.1 EoS supression a couple of months back.

In the case of 7, some are, some aren’t 🙂

For a zero knowledge of of computers Chrome browser user,  are there any browsers I can install that will remain in-support on Windows 7?

Is one of these a good choice,  or is there a better browser for a current Chrome user to switch to?

Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi, Comodo Dragon, Waterfox, Pale Moon, AVG Secure Browser

An Apollo astronaut replied when asked if going to the moon was dangerous, “We’re sitting on 2 million pounds of hydrogen and one million pounds of oxygen and everyone else is three miles away – of course we know it’s dangerous.” It’s ok to take risks if you understand them and are willing to accept the consequences.

On out of date systems, one shouldn’t be surfing with unsupported browsers.

The safe way to browse would be using a virtual machine (perhaps using Virtual Box), install a current light Linux distro (so you can use the latest Edge or Chrome browser). Then take a snapshot and just reuse that snapshot when you open the VM.

This way, you’re sandboxed, and can surf safely. You can even limit net access to the VM, for a safer environment.

      To suppress the Edge warning:

      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

      [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge]
      “SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning”=dword:00000001
