I have a template which will be used to setup procedures for app support. I’d LIKE to have interactive checkboxes for a list of tasks that might need to be accomplished for each. Is there a way to do this? Perhaps a table in which the first column has these, or some sort of swappable bullet? I’ve never done much with forms so I don’t know what’s possible.

This can be done relatively easily. You should investigate the Forms toolbar.

You might also look at this MVPs page for further information or other ways of achieving what you require.

Thanks Andrew. Is there a way to make just my table ,or part of the page the form? I don’t want the whole document to act like a form.

          Hi Bryan:
I don’t see Andrew online right now, so let me step in. Yes, you can protect part of your document. Insert continuous section breaks before & after your table & note what section that your table is in. Then go to Tools/Protect Document…/Forms & click the Sections button. Then you can check off which sections you want to protect.

Note that although you will be able to modfiy the non-protected sections, you will lose some functionality. e.g. you can’t access the macros dialog box. Such is the way Word works.
          Cheers,

            Thanks again Phil:

Now… I’ve copied the macro and autotext from contemporaryfax.dot to my template. When one creates a document from my template and the macro security is set to high, it won’t do the checkbox. What I notice is that the signing that MS does for the macro gets lost in the copy. Is there a way to copy a signed macro and keep it signed? I also tried pasting my template into the fax template and that works, but it’s not the cleanest solution. Is there a way? I’m sure there is and you know the answer! cool

              Bryan

The point of signatures would be lost if you could copy it across to another piece of code.

I usually just put the template into the users Workgroup or User templates directory and Word just happily assumes that it must be safe to run the macros. I have a feeling there is a check box to prevent this functionality in Word XP but I am on a Word97 machine at the moment and can’t verify that.

It works in XP if put in the templates directory specified in Tools/Options but not if in the generic Microsoft OfficeTemplates one. Even though this works, I want a better way. Isn’t there supposed to be a way to use the MS signature on your own projects? I can’t find anything in help, the MSKB or on the CD about it.

Have you read this page in the msdn library. It’s title is “Digitally Sign a Word 2002 Document and Programmatically Retrieve Digital Signature Information”

Now I have , but when I try out the various ideas I still don’t see any signatures to add to the file. I checked my OXP installation and it includes the digital sig part, but my sig list when I try to add, is empty. Do you know how I find the MS sig that I can use?

There was a link on that page to another page where it describes the use of the SelfCert.exe. I think this is what you are looking for.
