(Edited by HansV to provide link to MSKB article)

Using Excel 97, whenever I try to create a new chart or modify an existing chart type, I receive the error: EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module MSO97.DLL at 0177:3070ac08.

I’ve tried copying MSO97.DLL from another Office 97 computer, have tried reinstalling Excel & office, have uninstalled, rebooted, removed the c:program filesmicrosoft office directory, rebooted, reinstalled & rebooted to no avail.

I’ve tried renaming MSO97.DLL to something different and reinstalling. I’ve looked at KB article Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 163049, but my computer doesn’t have any light shading or dark shading icons visible to begin with.

Do you have SR1 or (preferably) SR2 of Office 97? The original Office 97 had problems like this, and they were solved in SR1. I also found a mention of corrupt AutoCorrect lists as a possible cause (these lists are in the Windows folder, not in the Office folder, so they wouldn’t be removed with the Office folder.) See OFF97: Error Message: Invalid Page Fault (IPF) in Module Mso97.dll

I have SR-2. I renamed the acl files, but still encounter the error.

RESOLUTION: I ran scandisk (just for giggles), and it found some crosslinked files. I reinstalled office after correcting the crosslink problem, and I was able to get into the Chart Wizard.

      cheers
