Can someone point me to a good reference on the chart & chart wizard? I am fumbling around big-time here.

… I can’t give any good websites regarding the Chart Wizard, however, have been able to fumble around and create some fairly good charts. (I.e, I have charts linked to 4 combo boxes such that the charts change their view as different combo boxes are selected.)

What is it you are trying to do?

i notice our common use of the word ‘fumble’ rofl

I just cracked open Helen Feddema’s book in which she recommends discarding the MS chart for the PivotChart view. My client seems amenable to that, so i am holding that as an option.

Meanwhile, it is useful to know how to use the Chart. My form has three parts: Master, detail, and detail chart. I have it working now such that it displays the values from a single column. What i want to do is ‘click on a column (in the detail view), and have the data source for the chart change to that column, and display the new data.’

… Fumble is a good choice of words as I find the MS Graph does wierd things when working with it.

I am also using the Pivot table functionality.

Regarding the MS Graph, Once a graph is set up, I have modified the graph two ways. One is to change the data set while retaining the field names by deleting and updating data in the tables and refreshing the form the graph resides on. The other is to use a query with all of the data while setting the RowSource of the graph to the query and also using the Child and Master fields to link the graphical data to the selection.

The graphs I am using are also plotting multiple lines as well.

I am not a fan of setting up the graphs, however, once set up, they seem to work well.

Regarding clicking on a column in the detail view and changing the data. I did something similar to this by using a listbox that showed the detailed data (instead of a detail view) and was able to link to the particular listbox data. The data table attached to the listbox was updated each time a new selection was made. However, this doesn’t meet your criteria of selecting part of the detailed set.

HMMMM, how would you select any column within a listbox or detail view and use it as the current data set. You would have to be able to automatically modify the bound column of a list box which I was unable to do before, however, I am sure there is a way…. Where is Charlotte, Francois, or Rory, to answer this??? hmmn

i hacked something together that seems to work for the immediate case.

i opine that there is some way to obtain the sql statement the chart is running on, and just switch in the appropriate text for the field name.
