• Chart printing bug (Excel 2007)

We’ve recently upgraded our machines from Office 2003 to Office 2007. On one file, ( *.xlw) when we open the file in Excel 2007 (it does gives us the warning about being in a different format than the specified file extension, so it opens in compatibility mode), we have a bar chart. When we select this bar chart and choose PRINT – and CHART ONLY – and choose “PREVIEW” everything looks fine on print preview — one chart, one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, one page. But when it actually prints, it prints HUGE, and only prints the upper righthand quarter of the chart (despite not showing that way in print preview or on page break preview).

When we open the same file in Excel 2003 and do the same motions (Print – CHART) – it prints the full chart correctly on one page.

What would be the change between these versions that would be causing the chart to not print correctly? We have tried on different printers; and different people’s workstations, same results. Fine in 2003, not in 2007.

An .xlw file is an Excel workspace file that stores information about the position of a number of Excel workbooks (.xls) on screen, and restores these positions when opened. The chart you mention must be in one of those workbooks, it is not stored in the .xlw file.
What happens if you open the relevant workbook (.xls) directly instead of through the workspace file?

Trying to determine that now. The user has always used it from the *xlw view, and he thinks he created the chart inside this *.xlw view, and has no idea which xls sheets are linked to the workspace.

And when I try going to data- connection – it isn’t showing any links to allow me to determine which worksheets are being pulled into this workspace view.

You should be able to see the name of the workbook in the title bar or in the list of open windows (if that has survived in Excel 2007).
