I’d like to add data labels that aren’t the data values to chart points. These labels are calculated on the source worksheet, so I’d like to avoid editing each label individually. One way I’ve found to do this is to specify “Category Name” as the “Label Contains” option in the Format Data Series dialog (Data Labels tab) and specify the desired labels as the Category (X) Labels in the Source Data dialog. Trouble is, I’d also like to label the X-axis with another series and I have several other series on the chart that I’d also like to label with different values (still different from the y-values). Is there any way to do this in Excel?

    Thanks,

Rob Bovey has written a free add-in: XY Chart Labeler. It works with other chart types than XY charts too. It lets you specify a range to act as data labels.
