help I’m using extensive cross references in a legal doc template. Sometimes the targets for the cross references need to be systematically changed (such as when a clause gets removed or broken into a number of sub-clauses).
Ideally I’d like to be able to go through the old cross references one by one and create a new appropriate cross-reference (like changing the references to clause 4 to become references to 4.1 or 4.2 etc.).
Word lets me do a find on fields but it only seems to work when the field codes are revealed – then I can’t easily tell what the reference was to. If I could do a Find/Replace on specific fields (e.g. find all references to clause 4 (even if clause 4 no longer exists)) that would be great.

I’ve searched Microsoft’s KB to no avail. Can anyone help?
