Changing machine number

Can anyone tell me how (or if it is possible) to change the “machine number” of my pc. I’m guessing it might be a registry edit – but i don’t really know where to start

You may be alble to download a SID changer. This is what you’re looking to do I think.

It is a registry edit, but the machine number is kept in about 25-50 places in the registry. A SID changer will effect a change of the system number, but it will be a randomized change. This generally only applies to Windows NT, where the SID is part of an image and must be changed.

You can do it with ghost walker from (now) norton. You need to boot from a floppy and the name must be the same length as the original.

This is the full version but ghost walker will stand alone. most IT depts I have worked for use it for cloning

We used ‘Sid Changer’ part of the PowerQuest Drive Image package… You’d have to buy that one tho..
