    How to cahnge the Product Key before registration?

      Insert your Windows XP Istallation CD. When Setup dialog appears, choose “Install Windows XP” and follow the wizard.

        Does it mean that I need to go through the whole installation process again?

        All the updates, Service Packs and applications have been installed over this unregistered WinXP. Will it affect the system when I do the installation by your method?

          Windows keeps copies of all updates and Service Packs in WindowsInstaller folder. If you choose to install Windows to the same location (“upon itself”), all updates will be automatically applied after reboot during installation process. Since you’re installing the same version of Windows, Setup will treat it as “update” and keep all your applications intact.

        I believe this site shows how to change the products key for the XP that has been “registered”, not the case of mine. I have not done the registration yet.
