• Change Password (XP SP2)

Seems like a simple enough thing to do, change your password. However, I am on the road away from work. I connected across the internet and did a Citrix where it told me my password was about to expire so I changed it. Now I am trying to change it on my laptop, still on the road. If I leave it trying to log on the network it cannot connect so it cannot change the password. If I change it to my computer it tells me the user name or the password is incorrect. Now, I have tried several times, typing slowly to ensure correct spelling of the password. The user name is autofilled, so that cannot be it. Any help?

If this is a domain login then your laptop just has a cached copy of your credentials, and can’t change them if you are not connected to the network.

I suspect the only solution will be if you can connect to your work network. Do you have any kind of VPN facility? If so then you can select the “Log on using dial up networking ” (or something very similar) option during log in and use the new password – this will update the client cache.

And there you go, I connected to the VPN and it promptly insisted I lock and unlock my computer with the current (i.e. the ones on the network) credentials. Worked. Thanks
