I’m trying to determine where/how Excel gets the name that it autofills as the Author line in a Cell Comment (Excel97-SR2).
I was helping my spouse build a workbook. My installation has my name as the ‘registeree’, so I wasn’t surprized when Excel pre-entered my name as the author in cell comments. But, I changed a few to her name by manually editing them and VOILA! – her name started to appear in newly created comments. Now, if she works on a copy of the workbook that she has copied off onto a floppy, it pre-sets her name. If she works on the copy on the harddrive, it presets my name.
    Ideas, anyone?

I’d always assumed(!) that that was the Tools/Options/General/Username setting. Probably wrong though.

Me too — but I personally watched it pre-fill her name (at least an exact copy of what I had changed another comment to)in newly created cell comments. It didn’t seem to matter if she was running the mouse/keyboard or I was

On Excel 2000, it gets the name from Tools/Options/General Tab/ User Name.
