CD ROM Player Problem

My CD ROM Player (Samsung SC-148) built into my Dell PC is working very strange. It doesn’t let Run Discs initialize (for apps such as Encarta Encyclopedia, Microsoft Streets & Trips, etc.) It starts to run, the flickering light comes on; & then it just stops. Anyone with this problem? Thanks.

What OS?

With XP one can tell the OS what to do one each CD, and the computer will remember what you told it.
