i finally got to the sys restore on my originalproblem and am able to log back on, now i am having a proble, evrerytime i insert a cd, it lock up my machine ( no errors) sometimes i can put in a cd and go explore it and copy the cd to my hard drive and run it from there, but when an application requires me to insert a cd, such as an oklahomoa map program (divided into 5 discs), it will lock up.

keep in mind i just installed a new dvd r. cdrw combo, and used it to install win xp media flawlessly, any ideas?

      thanks,

[/indent]And I wonder if therein lies the problem, not only here but in your other thread as well. One of us usually thinks to ask: “…what else have you done to the machine lately…”

I know it looks on the surface that the install of the new hardware is working, but in light of the desktop problem in the other thread and the locking up you’re having here, I wonder if it’s time to re-examine everything about that hardware installation. Did you follow the installation instructions exactly; is it jumpered correctly; are the cable connections tight and secure; did you install any software along with the hardware? I think you get the idea.

Why did you lock the thread? this is a totally different topic. this is crazy, you are aloud to lock any threads you want and keep people, from posting to them? isnt this a public forum?

i was trying to keep things in a orderly fashion and not mixing issues, but if that is how you want your message board viewd, scattered and un searchable, thats cool with me…

        thaks for all the help

if you notice this thread is about a lock up on the cd rom, and has nothing to dowith the no icons or start menu. if by locking the thread, means i got the problem fixed, i think you need to let me post on how i got it fixed for others to see, it didnt come from any advice here. i had to figure it out on my owm and id like to share with other folks

Whew, you sure have a short fuse, Ty. A Moderator made a decision based upon where he thought the work was going. If you disagree with that decision, there is a thing called Personal Message (PM) where you could let him know of your disagreement. Blowing off steam like that doesn’t help anyone involved, especially (whether you believe it or not) since we’re all trying to help you.

my post was not meant for any harm… and i am sorry if anyone took it that way. i hope you accept my apologies, and it will not happen again. there is only one other forum i frequent, and i am used to there format, so the lock of the post, kind of disturbed me. rest assured there was no harm intended.

sorry Stuart if it was taken that way. please accept my apologies

this is a great board and i would hate to start off on the wrong foot. it was actually given to me by Larry Phipps and pat may, who also frequent here, some and http://www.rpls.com
