I use CCleaner as one of my maintenance items once a month during the week before Patch Tuesday.

I was just doing a CCleaner update.
It has an option to “Set CCleaner Browser as my default browser”
    Naturally I unchecked that option.
There are already “umpteen” browsers around

    Has anyone done that?

If I were to forget unchecking that option, is it difficult to get back to my preferred default browser Microsoft CREdge?
BTW, what is the correct name for Microfoft’s Chromium-based browser?

Switch from CCleaner to the more private, secure ccPortable

Edge. The correct name for Microsoft’s Chromium-based browser is Edge.

Yes, you’ll hear people refer to it as “Chredge” or “Chromium-based Edge” or “New Edge”, but that’s just to distinguish it from it’s identically-named predecessor (now often referred to as “Legacy Edge” or “Original Edge” or “Old Edge”).

      Hope this helps.

How does ccPortable on OldGeeks differ from CCleaner Portable at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds on the official Piriform/Avast site?

I run the “official” CCleaner Portable from a USB thumb drive.  I’ve disabled collection of telemetry data at Options | Privacy | Help Improve CCleaner by Sending Anonymous Usage Data and created a custom outbound traffic block for CCleaner64.exe in my Windows Firewall per https://www.howtogeek.com/227093/how-to-block-an-application-from-accessing-the-internet-with-windows-firewall/.  Would ccPortable do a better job  preventing data transfer back to the Avast servers?

Getting back to the op’s original question, CCleaner is now owned by the Avast company who bought them from Piriform some time ago.  So a browser would probably be another rendition of Avast (as is AVG).

The OP’s original question was asking whether anyone had made CCleaner Browser their default browser.

        • #2282867

You’re right, that was one of the op’s original questions to be exact.  I just thought I’d add a little bit of info.

Check your dictionary, the page that defines ‘original’ appears to be missing.

Both CCleaner Browser and Avast Secure Browser are Chromium-based.

ccPortable has no connection to Avast and doesn’t transmit data.
ccPortable is a tweaked version on CCleaner free.

@Alex5723, help me understand this, from ccPortable (PortableApps.com):

      ccPortable

It clearly says that ccPortable “is an online installer that will download CCleaner during setup”

If I were to forget unchecking that option, is it difficult to get back to my preferred default browser Microsoft CREdge?

It is not hard to change default browsers, even if you instruct them not to check and ask you every time.

For Edge go to Settings, click on the menu (three lines to left of ‘Settings’ title), scroll down to ‘Default Browser’ and click on ‘Make default’.
