Is there a way of caopying/carrying forward trach changes from 1 document to a new one?

I am copying text from one document to another (newly created) document using our template (with several sections etc). Obviously it doesn’t take across the TC but is this possible – somehow.

I have found that the original document is somehow “corrupt’ and paginates the document forever when saving any change made to it. I have to press the Esc. But I found that when copy the contents to a ‘newly created’ document & then make any changes – the repagination is smooth and works fine!

Not easily – the pasted text will be as if you had accepted all changes. If Track Changes is on in the target document, the entire pasted text will be marked as an insertion.

You could try writing a macro that loops through the revisions in the source document and applies them to the target document, but looping through revisions doesn’t work well in a complicated document, so it’s probably not worth the trouble,

The next issue has a response from a reader who says it’s a feature, not a bug. I agree because I, too, keep a style sheet and need to copy the accepted change quickly. I grant, though, that for most other copying I want to keep the tracked changed in the new file.

Thanks! I didn’t know that, so I learned something new today!

(As the author of the article remarks, it’s strange that tracked changes get copied if track changes is off and don’t get copied if it is on, but hey – whatever works.)

Thanks for tip Pam but no good. It doesn’t work.

Tried lots of different combinations – it just works as expected (as Hans mentioned in his reply). Either you get all text as TC or none. There is no carry forward of the TC from original document . This is such a pain.

You must be doing something wrong – Pam’s tip works for sure! Track Changes must be off in both the source document and in the target document when you copy/paste.
