I have an image 320px in width and 240px in height to which I want to add a caption in a transparent area, 30px in height along the bottom of the image. The overall size would then be 320x270px.

Can this be done in Paint Shop Pro X and if so I’d be grateful to be told how?

In post 617,285, Jezza Bear gave a short tutorial on making a background transparent. To put a caption below, just be sure to use a color that you DON’T use for the “transparent color.”

Thank you for your response. DocWatson’s reply gave me a procedure that is satisfactory for my purpose but I do appreciate your interest.

Quick and easy way is to open a new image in the desired final size (320 X 270). This should give you a transparent palet to start. Next open the image you intend to use and from the edit menu select Copy and then close this image. Then from the edit menu select paste>As New Layer or As Transparent Selection. You should now have the image over a transparent background and can then add the text into the open area. When finishedadding the text you can go to the Layers menu and select Merge>Merge All. That should do it. HTH smile
