• Can't stop attempts to sync in WMP

I’m a retired rookie, but I do have several of Woody’s Books.
My problem is with the Windows Media Player in conjunction with some SanDisk “memory sticks”.
I have 7 or 8 of The SanDisk “memory Sticks” which I use for data storage and transfer only, their size varies 2GB, 4GB and 8GB.
When the WMP is playing music and I plug in a “Memory Stick” for some other application, WMP trys to sync “something to something”.
I get a jumpy mouse pointer and a jumpy Vista “busy circle”.
Some of the “memory sticks” produce a pop up “Device Setup Box”.
The WMP shows “Drag items here to sync” in the right hand “edit area”.
I want to turn off automatic sync.
I never want anything to sync to anything.
I have cleared the “start sync when device connects” check box.
None of the sync tab or “sync center” options seem to help. Auto start is off.
Microsoft recommended that I “turn off automatic sync”, but didn’t tell me how to do that.
I am not the only one on the Microsoft Forum with “turn off sync” problems.
    Help, Help! TYVM!!

After wandering through maybe ten different forums, I came across an apparent solution.
Apparently the “culprit” is the Portable Device Enumerator Service which I disabled.
      My symptoms went away!!

Follow this step to disable the service.

      1. Click start and type services.msc in the start search box and press enter.

      2. Scroll down the list and select the service.

      3. Right click on the service and choose the option properties.

      4. You may change the startup type to disable or the service status to stop.

      Good Luck to ll!!

I’ll try oldbamaguy’s remedy – my Vista Home Premium will ‘hang’ and on opening ‘Task Manager’ I find that sync center is hogging the processor to about 90% capacity.
Ending the sync process cures the problem.
I do not have anything that would require this service, and don’t want it: I have tried disabling the file ‘mobsync.exe’ in System32, but Microsoft has made it not-do-able.
10 minute pause – tried remedy – done – hope it works with me.
