• Can’t run WhatsApp, ffmpeg.dll is missing

I installed WhatsApp on my Android phone last week then downloaded the Windows 10 PC app to keep my devices in sync. Everything was fine for several days, then the desktop app quit working with the message that it couldn’t run because ffmpeg.dll was missing, and suggested I reinstall the desktop app.

Tried that several times. The first time that seemed to work, but the next day (and every time since), it fails with the same message.

    What’s the fix for this?

    Thanks.

See if this helps until Whatsapp figures out they broke something?

“Go to your whatsapp folder in users/(your user name)/appdata/local (make sure you have hidden folders visible). You’ll see two folders, app-2.2134.10 and app-2.2138.13, both have their own whatsapp.exe that will open the app. You’ll notice however that the newer folder for version .13 does not have the file ffmpeg.dll, but the older version’s folder does. That is why the updated .exe won’t open.

For now you can use that launcher in the older folder”

Thanks so much, really appreciate your quick reply. Found the previous version &  tried to install it, but couldn’t. Few minutes later I got your update about the outage!

Decided to set up Signal as a workaround for now.

      Hi,

I’ve had problems with my WhatsApp on my PC constantly since they were down a few weeks ago. First I had the same problem than above, now what is constantly happening, is that the phone symbol in my desktop whatsapp disappears. One time it came back by itself, but mostly not until I re-install again and again.

      Help would really be appreciated!
