I cannot print selected pages or ranges in Word. Doesn’t matter if I have used commas or dashes in the dialogue box. Currently I was attempting to print a range of labels but the problem is the same in any Word doc.

    Your advice would be appreciated

ps: This is the first time I have used 2003 mail merge, What a pig’s ear Microsoft have made. Long winded and tedious. Just seems that they tried to accommodate for people who can’t write a letter or plan their data source. Pre-2003 MM was so simple.

The “syntax” for printing a range of pages is:

      Pages 3 through 7: 3-7
      Pages 3, 5 and 10: 3,5,10
      Pages 3 through 7 and 10: 3-7,10
      Section 4: s4
      Sections 4 through 6: s4-s6
      Sections 4 and 6: s4,s6
      Pages 3 through 7 in section 4: p3s4-p7s4
      Page 3 in section 4 through page 2 in section 5: p3s4-p2s5

PS The big change in mail merge was from Word 2000 to Word 2002 (XP); I don’t think much has changed between Word 2002 and Word 2003. It takes a while to get used to he task pane interface, but it’s not bad in my opinion. The standard way of inserting merge fields is extremely tedious, but you can easily add the old Insert Merge Fields dropdown to the Mail Merge toolbar. And if you really can’t get used to the task pane, you can still invole the old three-step mail merge dialog – see post 539,129.

        Hello Hans

I had tried these… tried again but still doesn’t work

Checked the printer queue, nothing seems to be going to the printer but a colleague, who shares my printer, can print selected pages or ranges.

        Mystery…..

      Hetty,

As Hans said, not much changed in Mail Merge between XP and 2003 and the big change was from 2000 to XP. If you’re first using the new MM task pane in 2003 and came there from 2000, you might want to take a look at 2 of my posts where I compared 2000 against XP/2003. These are posts post 539448 and a few posts in that thread following it and post 499808.

As mentioned there, most people actually find the new task pane approach better. My initial reaction was similar to yours. And a few shortcomings can be addressed by customizing the toolbars.
