    Hello all,

I’ve been diligently printing various documents and cards over the last couple of days. Then, yesterday, when I was trying to print a card designed on Microsoft Word, my printer stopped printing. Now, whenever I try printing anything in Word or Excel, nothing comes out. My printer will run a sheet of paper through, and it’ll sound like there’s some movement under the hood, but nothing comes out.

My previous documents that were printed over the last week were primarily text. This new card has a small logo placed in a corner of the document.

I have tried removing the printer and downloading a new driver. That didn’t seem to work. I’ve played around with my normal.dotm, and that had no effect. I’ve deleted and reinstalled my Microsoft Office, and that didn’t work either. I have ink, and documents do print from other applications (ie browser and pdfs), but I can’t seem to get my printer working with Word and Excel again.

I’m currently running on Windows 7, and Microsoft Office 2010. If it helps, I have a Canon MP610 printer.

I’m really at a loss as to where to start. Anyone have any suggestions… please?

Is the problem that you can print text, but not graphics in MS Word? I’m not using an up-to-date version of Word, but there used to be a draft mode in Word that would cause this.

Have you tried printing a test page, from within the printer properties page?

Would it be possible for that not to work if printing from IE browser and PDF reader is fine?

Actually it does not make sense to suggest it. I failed to notice the part where it was stated that printing from IE worked fine.

            Thanks for the replies.

I’m unable to print text or pictures on Word/Excel. Pictures and text comes out just fine from IE. I did try doing a test and clean on the printer, and that came out fine. Any thoughts?

Have you tried an Office repair?

Do you have an AV app running? Which one?

I am currently running on Kaspersky 2011. I’ve tried disabling, but still nothing.

Can you save a word or excel document as pdf and try printing that pdf doc? Is the printer able to print it correctly?

I had a similar problem with Office applications, specifically Word documents, except that the printer did not spit out paper. I had previously installed a “RAMDisk” application which purported to speed access to web, et al. and which required that I point locations that otherwise would have been hard disk resident to those of the newly established RAMDisk, one of which specifically was the location of temporary internet files. Office uses this location to provide “assistance” to you as you work (help, suggestions, etc.), and the default locations are apparently hard coded in Office. This no-print behavior occurred after installing the RAMDisk application and before setting temporary internet files back to the default location after removal of the RAMDisk application (a trial). You might consider whather you have similarly relocated temporary internet files to a non-default location, and, if so, setting them back to default and see if this solves your problem. It did for me, and I was at a complete loss prior to doing so. Good luck.

This is ALWAYS a good solution to a multitude of printing problems. Print to PDF, then let Adobe manage the actual printing of the job, which it does very well.

Do you have an image backup that was taken when everything was working OK? If so, try restoring that image.

I have a Canon MX860 and one day it cropped up with a fatal motherboard error. Unplugging the printer from the computer cleared the error and the printer worked. Plugged the printer back in and the error reappeared. Like you, I tried all the re installs and still the error. Luckily the day before I had made a system image. Decided to give the system image a try and it worked. Printer has been working well since the image restore.

Not exactly the same as your problem but worth a try if you have an image.
