I download my credit card charges from the Chase Bank website into my 2007 Excel spreadsheet. The date for each entry appears in the format 07/22/2015, which I like.

I add other information to the spreadsheet but cannot duplicate this date format on my data. Using ‘format painter’, I tried to copy the Chase date format to my other date cells. It doesn’t work. The date appears as a date number–not a date with the 07/22/2015 format.

I checked how the Chase date was formatted and it uses a custom format ‘##,###,##0.00’. I tried typing the custom format assigned to my date cells but it still just gave the date number.

Does anyone know how to do this in Excel 2007?

    Thanks for your help.

Try: Right click cell(s) > Format cells > Custom > enter mm/dd/yyyy in the Type box > OK

That format doesn’t look like a data format to me. Can you give us an example of the number shown in the field you want to format?

      cheers, Paul

I … cannot duplicate this date format on my data. … it still just gave the date number.

Excel is a truly excellent piece of software, but one of its glaring faults is with date formatting. I use Excel 2013 and it’s still a real pain to get imported data to display dates properly.

That format doesn’t look like a data format to me.

Me neither, maybe it’s a port from mainframe data because it’s really messed up.

        Lugh.
