bummer My computer isn’t allowing installation of a PDA cradle for a Garmin IQ3600 PDA/GPS.

    1. “Found new hardware” wizard detects a Palm device, begins install, then presents: “the system cannot find the file specified.” Have tried automatic recognition of device files on the CD, manual recognition on the CD, and manual recognition of downloaded drivers from Garmin’s website.

    2. System: XP Pro, SP2, Windows Firewall Off, VirusScan on.

    3. The same cradle has been successfully installed on two other computers with XP Pro, SP2, both before and after attempts on the problem computer (which I’m probably stuck with).

    4. Have uninstalled and reinstalled Palm and sync programs under direction of Garmin tech support.

    5. Garmin tech support is stumped.

    Thanks,

Have you tried the install with VirusScan temporarily disabled?

What did the instructions say about installing software vs. plugging in hardware?

A lot of USB units the software MUST be installed FIRST.

        Dave,

The installer goes in the following order: (1) install desktop and sync software, (2) plug in hardware and press the sync button, (3) installer is supposed to recognize the hardware, (4) locate the drivers and install them. It’s doing one through three, and failing on four. I’m going to disable antivirus and try again.

        Thanks. Andy

Also do you have a script blocker running, if so you might want to disable it.

            Dave,

Where do I find a script blocker? The only place I can find references to scripts is in Internet Explorer.

Norton’s AV has one and some other AV programs have them.

I have McAfee; there’s no script blocker that I can tell.

Now it’s back to the vendor tech support; thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
