I have 3 computers on my network.

    A can communiate with B.
    C can communiate with B.
But A and C can’t communiate with each other.

In network neighborhood, A shows all 3 machines even though it can’t access C.
In Network neighborhood, B shows A,B, and C.
In Network nieghborhood, C shows A and C.

I’ve got print and file sharing enabled on all three machines.

I know I must be missing something simple but I just can’t put my finger on it. Any ideas?

What OS is being used on each machine?

What firewall if any is being used on each machine?

Are you sure that you have file sharing turned on and some shares defined on each machine?

If running Win2K on any machine, have you turned on the ‘Guest’ account?

All machines have Win98SE networked through a Linksys ethernet/cable DSL router. File and print sharing are all turned on. Maching A can communicate with B, and B can communicate with C, but A and C can’t communiate [sounds like a math problem]. Do I have to turn on sharing between A and C? If so, how is this different than turning on “regular” print and file sharing?

      That’s odd, C can see A but not open a share, while C can’t see B but B can access C?

Do you have NetBeui running on all 3 computers, and all 3 set to the same workgroup? NetBeui is non-routable, so it doesn’t create any security concerns (as far as I know) to turn it on as an adjunct to TCP/IP. Sometimes solving TCP/IP problems is just not worth the time it takes!

Yes, adding Netbeui solved the problem. I finally figured that out and was rebooting when your message came through asking if I had done this. Running around the room and comparing all 3 computers finally made me realize that my newest machine [which came with win98 installed] hadn’t been installed with Netbeui. So all is now well in networkland. Thanks to all of you who made suggestions.
