The block caller is not working.  when I tap the number that I want to block I do not get it to show the  i  to tap.  If I go to my call blocking section and tap add blocked contact it takes me to my regular contact list.

    Any help?

      Screenshots may help.

For example, I have an iPhone SE2 and process is:

      1. Click on the i info button:

      ios_recent_phone_calls1

      2. Click on ‘Block this caller’.

      ios_recent_phone_calls2
(Sorry, little bro. In the interests of providing screenshots I appear to have made a mistake. My bad… I’ll sort it out, 🙂 )

thanks Rick.  I’m not seeing the i info button.  It used to be there and it is not there now.  The only way I can now block someone is to add them to my contact list and then block the caller.

The device type doesn’t matter. Which iOS version ?

Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone or iPad

Have you tried switching off the phone for 5 mins and restarting to see if it’s just a glitch?
You may need to backup your files, contacts etc in iTunes or iCloud. Then reset the phone and import your data back in from your chosen backup location.

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...

      version 16.6

Have you tried to shut down and restart ?

    • #2578730

I’m also on iOS 16.6… but it appears the service is having problems at the moment…

      ios_update_issue1

The ‘spinner’ keeps spinning… then I get this:

      ios_update_issue2

So I guess we just have to wait a while for the mothership to sort itself out. 🙂

      Hope this helps…

Thanks Rick.  I knew about this one.  But can you check to see what happens if you try to block a number?  And if when you add a blocked number manually it takes you to your contact list – not to the blocked number list.

    • #2578729

I shut down the phone every night.  Hardly use it at all.  Just shut it down again and same problem.  Mybe it’s a glitch the same as now the iphones have the glitch that they don’t want to show updates?  I have no files on the phone – no itunes, no email.  Just use it for phone and a few texts.

      Here’s what I see when I block a number:

      ios_block_caller

      … then, afterwards…

      ios_unblock_caller

If you don’t see these dialogs then maybe do a reset then restore?

(I always back up locally via iTunes. A reset and restore from a local source is much, much quicker and more resilient than OTA [Over The Air] IMO… but that’s just me.).

      Hope this helps…

(Hmm… so, for the process of snapping screenshots I’ve blocked both my brother and my partner. ROFL I’ll let you know if ‘unblocking’ fails. 🙂 )

I just received another spam caller and the i info button suddenly appeared and I was able to block the caller.  Go Figure!!!!

Thanks to all for your speedy replies and help.  I have no idea why it’s suddenly working but I’m a happy camper!

That’s good. Thanks for letting us know.

(Umm… just be very aware of an iOS issue that screenshotting previous callers using power+home buttons appears to actually call the contact. Happened twice. Just had a very worried younger brother on the phone asking why I had called him in the the middle of the night… which lead to a very weird conversation about how I was screenshotting a process.)

This is a tad off topic but quite awhile ago it was mentioned on Ask Woody about a way to fix glitches on the iphone — it was not a hard reset.  I cannot find my notes on it.  You had to press a few things in a prescribed order to do it.  Can anyone put me out of my misery on this?  I don’t think it was called a reset but something else – and I don’t think that it erased what was on the iphone.

Also — tonight the glitch has been fixed and my iphone now displays “checking for updates” correctly.

Do you mean how to clear its RAM? Just start a ‘power down’ but, when slide to power off appears then press on Cancel… or just wait.

I don’t know the ins and outs of it but this apparently clears both caches and RAM.

I use it regularly with my iPad when it begins to feel sluggish… it appears to restore responsiveness without powering off/powering on again.

BINGO!!!!  That’s it — clear the RAM!  I can’t thank you enough for helping me out with this.  I was tearing the house apart trying to find my notes.  🙂

      No problemo. 🙂
