Can’t add contact to To: field (Outlook 2002)

I have searched the forum but not found the answer.
I have several contacts in my address outlook address book that I can’t select in the To: field – They display as a “.” These same contacts can’t be added to a distribution list – Also displays a single “.”

If you open the contact records directly from the contacts folder, is there anything strange about the Email display name?

Thanks for the idea. It is now working. But I don’t know why.

I had looked at the display name and found nothing wrong – no leading space, wrong spelling or anything. A few minutes ago, I changed the display name to “me” and it worked, so I pasted the original display name back and it still works.
