I can’t access folder called “Data” in Root directory of a networked PC HDD through the open/save common dialog boxes, it works fine in Windows Explorer, any ideas? No passwords have been assigned to the folder

    Thanks

Are you getting an error reported?
By ‘access’ do you mean opening the folder, or opening a file within?

Most times I don’t get and error at all. The folder just doesn’t open at all. Other times there is a message about passwords, permissions etc, but I haven’t been able to reproduce an error message to give you more details.

I can’t browse to the file in Word for example, but I can double click on the file in Windows Explorer and open it that way.

        Thanks for your help

Does anyone have a clue why I can’t access the folder? As explained in this thread.

It is quite a serious problem – would anyone know why this is happening?

Without specifics, this may be hard to track down. A few questions could help things here.

Are you logging on to a domain, or in a workgroup?

What is the operating system on the PC you are trying to access, and what is the OS on the client PC?

Is there a drive mapped in explorer, or are you going through Network Neighborhood/My Network Places?

Last question, is there a user account set up on the “server” that you are attempting to access (assuming it is an NT based machine)?

I am logging on to a home network.
The operating system on the PC I am trying to access is Win 95
I am going through My Network Places – when I try to map a drive to d:/data it automatically get changed to d:/
This does not happen when the network is accessed by Win 95 machine
