• Cannot upgrade from 1803

    I have been prompted for some time now that my version of Windows 10 has reached end of service. However, each time I try to update, during one of the restarts, my computer just shuts down. When I power it on again, it rolls back to 1803 … again.

    I would love to update, I certainly don’t want to have to go through the hassle of a clean install and have to recreate the working environment I have.

    Suggestions as to how to proceed would be much appreciated,

      Start with some questions:
      Has you computer been updating 1803 without issue? When did you receive the last update? What Build (17134.???)
      Are you (or have you ever) used a third-party update blocker?
      Do you have metered connections turned ON?
      Do you have Win10 Home or Pro?
      In Update History, is there any error code when it fails?

      Can you give us some h/w specs on your computer?
      How much free space do you have on the hard drive?
      What anti-virus programs are you running?

      No need to clean install.

      Download the ISO copy of 1909 using Microsoft’s media creation tool

      Mount/open the ISO file and run setup.exe.
      During the process select to update keeping your apps and data.

      Remember to take a full image copy of your PC before starting the update process.

        not only that, disconnect from the internet (turn off all wifi connections by putting the computer in “Airplane Mode” or unplug any ethernet/LAN cables if using a wired LAN connection) before running setup.exe from the Win10 ISO file. it’s best to do the upgrade “offline” with no internet connection.

        after the upgrade from 1803 to a more recent version is successfully completed, re-establish any internet connections by getting out of Airplane mode or replug any ethernet/LAN cables.
