Cannot update Windows 10

G’day guys and gals.
I have upgraded three PC from Win 7 to Win 10, one of the PCs does not have any “program” in the start bar to update Win 10.
I have searched the Net and all I get is: Select the Start button, select Settings  > Update & security > Windows Update, and then select Advanced options.[/B][/B][/B] This facility is NOT on my PC.[/B][/B]The other option I get is: go to the Start bar/button and select Windows Update – [/B][/B][/B]This facility too, is NOT on my PC.
It is quite obvious that I cannot update from the Net’s MS site.
Any suggestions would be most welcome, I am baffled as to why the “offending” PC will not allow me to update.

Have you tried clicking Start, click the gear/Settings icon and should find Update at the bottom of the list.

Yes Sir, I have tried that, but also to no avail. I can see this option on the other two computers but not on the rogue one.

Don’t feel discouraged. I discovered (months ago) that two of the many Windows 7 computers I have managed to help transform into Windows 10 had exactly that problem!
I can’t take any credit for curing the situation however. In one case it simply seemed to “cure itself” after about six reboots (over the course of two days).
In the other case I used the Media Creation Tool and simply reinstalled Windows 10.
(Both of those computers showed that they were “activated with a digital entitlement” so I had the option to do a clean install if I had wanted, too.)

So, may I suggest that you either “reset” the problem PC, or use the Media Creation Tool (to create an installation USB flash drive) and then upgrade again.

Rocke, you make me feel better: I have been playing with PC since 1990 and taught soft ware applications since 1993, but this Windows 10 (can I swear on this forum?) is giving me the s##^s.
One think I have noted when I have looked at my MoDem setting is that it recognizes two PC with Windows 10 and the rogue on as being a Windows 7 variety, though clearly Win 10 is installed.
This rogue PC has been rebooted a number of times over the past six or so weeks, so I will try your second option.
Please inform where I can find the Media Creation Tool. I hate to have to upgrade again as we are on a very strict download limit here in Oz.

Well Bruno, I’m sorry to say that using the Media Creation Tool will certainly require downloading a bunch-o-bytes again. Look on the brighter side though, once you’ve created a USB flash drive (or optical disc) then you shouldn’t have to download the whole kit anymore. (I don’t know if you have more PCs to upgrade, but if the occasion arises you can just use that installation media again, and again…)

Thank you BruceR, I have had a look at this appears simple enough, though I would have thought that somewhere MS would allow you to “test” the system and “repair” any faults that the anti-bug software may find, but I suppose that is too easy and too much to ask for.

Thank you RockE, it looks like another 4 GB down the drain. This is by far the worst program that I have ever had to deal with, and I have been at it since the year DOS.
I am still battling with email programs: apparently there is no money to be made be creating email programs and thus things are not getting better in that area either.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the answers. If anyone can find me a “repair” program I will be in heaven.

Can you search for “Settings”?

If not, you could use Shift+Restart to Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10 (Method 2), then select Troubleshoot to Reset Windows 10 (Option One).

Thank you BruceR, I will try that next and see how I go. I have not heard of Shift+Restart (in fact where is the “Restart button” if there is one on the k/b?
I went to the site mentioned above and I honestly have not seen any of the blue screen shots shown. But I have saved the link, so I will plough ahead later on.

If you use Win+X do you get a menu? If so, you can use the “Shut down or restart” fly out to select “Restart” with the shift key held down.

Thank you JoeP517, indeed Win+X does give me a menu (this was new to me). I will try the different fly-out techniques to see if that makes a difference.
