I am trying to help a friend who cannot access her mail in her folder on Yahoo webmail. We can see the folder and we can see how many unread messages there are but when we click on the folder it will not open in either Firefox or IE. If I rightclick I can open the folder in a new tab and see messages. If I want to read a message, I have to RC again to see the content. Deleting is just as bad. What was weird was when I first downloaded FF to try, I could open the mail folder without problem – once and then it started doing what I have described. I have deleted history/cookies/temp web pages, etc. but still it doesn’t help. Is there a piece of malware that may be responsible for this mess?

I hope I’ve explained clearly enough. If not, of course ask what away. We are on a Win XP IE8.
    Thanks

With IE8 have you tried Yahoo in IE7 compatability mode?

        Hi Joe

Yes, I did try that – sorry I forgot to mention it. Thanks. Any other ideas?

Are other folders in the account OK?

Good question and the answer is no. They will open with right click to a new tab but not in the same window. There is a little message displayed that says “loading” and it tries but ends up doing nothing.

This sounds vaguely familiar. Is it an acceptable short-term workaround to use the “Classic” mode?

The user is already in Classic Mode. She is an older person and doesn’t want to mess with the newer “stuff” since she is familiar with what she has now.
Thanks for the thought though! It seems a strange issue especially since I could access her folder once in FF and then it was the same mess as IE. She can open links directly from other websites without having to use the right click method. It is only within Yahoo mail that she has this problem.

Do you or she have another Yahoo account that you can try to see if it is something particular to her PC or have you tried accessing her Yahoo account from your home system ??

You might also try creating a new Yahoo account from her PC and see if that has the same issues.

This is a strange one and might be a Yahoo problem on the server.

I have a Yahoo account that I can use but it never occurred to me to try it on hers.
I can get into her Yahoo account without any problems from my computer. And the folders open with one click like they should.

When I return to her place, I’ll give creating a new account a try to see what happens. And I can try mine as well. I wish I had thought to try these two ideas while I was there……

Thanks for the trouble shooting suggestions!
