One employee in our company has encountered the issue described below, after installing all June 2020 security updates:
“Something is wrong with the data files, and Outlook needs to close” error
There are a few current articles on this issue. Has anyone else run into this issue after June 2020 updates? The registry change for “PromptRepair” mentioned in a couple of these articles was successful as a workaround to resolve the issue.
Yes! I came back from lunch today, something Microsoft (I think, I didn’t pay it much mind, but it looked like those see what’s new things) had updated (not Windows apparently, but it caused a reboot) and since then it’s been telling me that all my pst files are corrupted (even if I delete them, the file is still somehow corrupted) and it won’t let me in. Still trying to work around, but I’m bummed if I lose a week’s worth of work.
If you can, use a free .pst file viewer, such as this one, to see if the .pst file(s) can be opened and read from outside of Outlook. If it will open a file, and you can read the emails within, this *may* indicate that the file is not corrupted and that the fault lies elsewhere. You could also consider using the scanpst tool, which exists within Office.
