I have excel 2002. When I try to open an excel file from windows explorer I get a blank screen. The file will open with file > open. I tried running excel /unregserver and then excel /regserver and reinstalling office xp and sp3, but this did not help.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

      Hi Susan

Just to double check, if you open My Computer, go to Tools | Folder Options, then File Types tab, search for the file extension .XLS.
Is this associated with Excel? If not use the Change button to locate Excel as the default program for this type of file.

You may have already done ths – if so apologies!

It is associated to excel in explorer. I re-associated it again, but it still opens as a grey blank screen…Susan

          Hi Susan,
Does this happen if you open all types of Excel files (e.g. templates etc.)?

Yes, this happens on all excel files when you click on them through windows explorer..Susan

In that case, if you look at the General tab under Tools-Options in Excel, is the Ignore other applications box checked? If so, uncheck it.
