• Cannot copy TIF items (XPP SP1)

Even after trying to clear cache, index.dat, and rounding up the usual suspects, I am suddenly unable to copy items from the TIF and am greeted with the message below. This is new to me. Any ideas?

It probably doesn’t exist. What size file does Explorer report it as? 1K?

It is not really necessary to add a screen shot every time! If you typed in the message, we would believe you. smile

I am certain they exist. The files sizes are from 1KB (small WOPR gifs and cookies) to 644KB (swfs and jpgs).

Bruce, You said you cleared cache, etc. How could you still have files in TIF? What do you mean by cache? Do you have multiple users on the machine? Does the user trying to delete/copy the files have the privileges to access the files?.

            Hi, Joe ~

By ‘cache’ I mean the TIF. The files weren’t ‘still’ there in TIF, but rather I cleared it and then loaded the page, such as this one. On this machine I am the sole user. I can delete the files, but attempts to copy them are met with above message.

Hi Bruce, Unless you have an impending HD crash, that sure seems like a permissions problem. I’ve forgotten, is this XPP or XPH?

              Hi, Joe ~

XPP SP1. I’ve had full privs and thought maybe something faltered after SP1, but do recall saving from TIF after that as normal. If it was a priv problem, then would it not also prevent me from deleting same files?

Bruce, Yeah, I’d think so. If there a problem with the destination for the files?

              Hi, Joe ~

No apparent problem with the destination for the files. The problem seems to have disappeared, however, after re-running Spider v1.16 and making sure all options were checked. This leads me to the likely conclusion this issue was once again the corruption ‘index.dat’ files and caching errors of Internet Explorer.

Bruce, Glad you resolved it. I run this little program: CacheSentry. I’ve not had any problems with the IE cache since I started using it. You can still use any other tools to clean out the folders when you wish.

              Joe ~

You have mentioned Cache Sentry and Cache Monitor before and I never proceeded past the info pages. blush I am downloading the former as I type and will give ‘er a run. Seems the CS key for IE6 is changing the size value in the ‘index.dat’ file to the correct value.

Try viewing with your profile path (make sure that you have full path view in explorer) –
C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files then append Content.IE5 to the end of this path.
C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files Content.IE5
Are you able to copy from any of the folders? (such as 0HQZG9EF)

I guess I missed page 2 (and thought page 1 was the end!) I am leaving this here –
