• Cannot close query w/o saving (2003)

I recently developed a strange behaviour in Access. If I write an ad hoc query and want to just close it without saving, I cannot. All I get is the dialog box with Query1 in the name and OK/Cancel. IF I do cancel I just go back to the QBE grid.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Does this happen in all databases or just in a specific one?

        one specific one

First, see if Tools | Database Utilities | Compact and Repair Database helps.
If not, create a blank new database and import all database objects from the problem database into it. You’ll have to set startup options (if any, in Tools | Startup), and non-standard references (in Tools | References in the Visual Basic Editor) as in the original database. Hopefully, the problem won’t occur in the new database.

I have compact set on close anyways, so this did not work. Will have to recreate as you said.
Is this a known “upgrade opportunity” AKA bug? (I really want 2007)

              Not really grin
These things just happen… No doubt they’ll happen in Access 2007 too

Just for your info I encountered exactly the same problem the other day. I was visiting a client, and constructing some ad hoc queries in an exisiting database that otherwise works OK.
All I could do was save the queries then delete them.
