This morning, my browser screens did not display properly.  When I went full-screen, the bottom was cut off–very annoying if there is something you need to see at the very bottom. (It does not happen on my Windows 7 computer, so I can only assume that a recent Windows 10 update did something.)

After fiddling with browser settings (which I had not changed from what worked fine yesterday–not really a factor when you take something full-screen), I decided to look at my display settings.  I right-clicked on the desktop, but when I clicked on display settings, the app popped up and disappeared.  I tried several times, and did some searches on the internet.  Since some posts connected this type of problem to windows updates, I came here and saw the posts on KB4524244.  So sure enough, it was the last update in my history.  I uninstalled it and restarted, but no joy.

The posts I alluded to above were mainly about not loading the Settings app.  I can get Settings, but if I click on System, the app pops up and disappears.  That means I cannot get to sound or notifications either.

    Any suggestions?

It would help to know what version of Win10 you are running and what Build.
In the searchbar type “winver” (without the quotes), press “Enter” and let us know.
      Home Edition of Pro?

Also, did the computer recently install updates?

If you type “display” in Windows search and click on “Display settings” can you change the display settings from there?

      cheers, Paul

Thanks, Paul and Da Boss for your quick replies.  I waited for an email telling me there was a reply to my post and didn’t get one so I didn’t check back until today. (Maybe I forgot to click on the “Notify Me” option.)

In answer to your questions, typing “Display” in search gets the same results as right clicking on the desktop or attempting to go through the Systems app.

When I typed “winver” I got a window that wouldn’t go away–I clicked on the Winver App, but results were showing behind the window. I figured out how to look at them,  then had to restart to get rid of the Winver window.  (I’m on my Windows 7 computer right now, and hating Windows 10 more than ever!)

The Version is 1903 Build 18362.657 Windows 10 Home.  The last update was KB4524244 on 2/14/2020.

Open Device Manager (search for device) and expand Display Adapters.
Right click on the adapter you have installed and select Uninstall.
Reboot and let Windows reinstall the driver.
      Test and let us know.

      cheers, Paul

Before I took any actions, the initial display problem went away.  In other words, the full-screen display went back to normal.

I still can’t get into system settings through the Windows 10 app, but I can get to the them through the Control Panel.  So for the time being, I’m going to leave things as they are.   Again, thanks for the quick responses.
