Can you do me a huge favor? For those of you that frequent the forums, I need you to make sure that your user profile name is not your email address.

I just went to your alternate link to check, and got this message.

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this admin page.

Reason: The current user doesn’t have the “read” capability that is required to access the “Profile” menu item.

      All OK here, Susan.

Nothing appears near my user name when I hover the mouse pointer over it, the only thing that appears is at the bottom left hand corner of my screen above the Windows 10 taskbar and it says: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/users/carl-d/

      Using Firefox 85.0.2 64bit

I see the same thing when I sign in with Edge (new Chromium version).carldfirefox

Yep. That is the way to check. Simply hover over your screen name and see the link which is shown in your web browser’s popup for the link URL.

I have been using my email to log in for a while due to a glitch some time ago that made it hard logging in with usernames. I checked out your question by signing in with my username and then email. In both cases the username was correctly shown.

      I’m good (I think).

      Thanks for your concern.

No problem. However, just how secure is WordPress and Kali Forms?  Both have access to this information.  WordPress I am aware of – not so Kali Forms.  I ask the question as ‘askwoody’ is the only forum I am registered with.

The issue is having your email on each post, making it easy for spammers to scrape.

        cheers, Paul

Kaliforms is just a plug in we use for the anonymous tips for Brian Livingston. It doesn’t harvest email addresses.

I’m good. plodr is my username at almost all the places I frequent.

The login page should remove email as an option.

The first line says username or email. It should be username, don’t use email address.

This mainly occurs from accounts imported from Windows Secrets Newsletter subscriptions, so barely affects those who created an AskWoody account personally.

We’ve been actively monitoring this since WSN/WSL merged, and despite the few who have pushed back defiantly, many, many Loungers have already made the change.

Another remote probability is that the user name is not in fact the user’s current email address. My late brother-in-law had several on-line ids that had been established when sites required signing up with an email address. Over time he did change addresses, but there was no provision for changing the sign-on. This confounded me when I was eradicating his on-line existences.
