I have a “bright” idea – Can I just copy a newer build of MSJET40.DLL and MSJETOLEDB40.DLL over an older build of the two files? I has done that with DAO360.DLL without any visible adverse effect on my database application.

Bright ideas can sometimes get you into trouble and mismatching critical libraries like the Jet libraries is a high risk concept. What’s the purpose of copying them instead of just applying the latest Jet 4 service pack or update? The latter will insure that the necessary versions stay in sync.

Well, Charlotte, my “bright” idea came about because of Microsoft’s updating sequence. If I have a Microsoft Jet 4.0 earlier than SP3, then I have to download the updates twice, one for SP3, and one for SP6. Copying the updated files over is much simpler if I have more than one desktop to update:)

You’re safest to download both updates. The same files may not be updated in both, so shortcuts could get you into trouble down the road.
