• Can any audio player sync songs/files IN ORDER?!

I have a tiny 2nd gen iPod Shuffle and a large library of non-music audio. Most of my audio files are segmented into Part 1 of 3, Part 2 of 3, etc. I want the ability to sync/xfer them to my iPod IN ORDER!! I can’t seem to accomplish this. WMP screws it up (I can eventually accomplish manually, but major pain); can’t get it going on WinAmp or RealPlayer; verified with Media Monkey tech support that this is not possible. Bottom line: I want to be able to sort my list based on FILENAME, not any of the ID3 tags. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I think I understand your question. Many, many years ago, I made music collages on quarter-inch tape decks, so I got used to ordering any way I liked. When I finally moved to digital, I discovered the software laid the tracks in alphabetically, so I started renaming them. i just added a number at the beginning of the track. Would this method, or a variation, work for you? I don’t use iPods or mp3 players, so while I’m not sure what the result would be, it seems like it would work.

Thanks for the input. Sadly, my files *ARE* named alphabetically. For example, these files…
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part1of4.mp3
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part2of4.mp3
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part3of4.mp3
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part4of4.mp3

….will be dropped in a random order on my iPod like this…
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part4of4.mp3
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part3of4.mp3
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part1of4.mp3
      C:MyFolderMyAudio_Part2of4.mp3

…because the ID3 tags are all the same or non-existent. I can’t get anything to let me sort on the FILENAME itself!! Very frustrating.

Some MP3 players seem to inspect only the first few characters of the filename when sorting ‘alphabetically’.

The other approach would be to use freeware software such as MP3TAG to create ID3 tags that will work

Many thanks!!! MP3Tag solved my problem!! After a little learning curve, I was able to set the Title tag = filename. Awesome.
