I am having problems with my calendar reminders either not working or going off when they feel like it at odd times and not showing in the reminder list despite they are recurring for some time. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Also, I am curious to know if there is a way to re-install just the calendar & address book.

Hmmmm……not many people using calendars?? Okay, well, I reluctantly installed Works, but now my reminders are popping up and hour and 15 minutes after the appointment. I have them set for 15 minutes prior to the appointment.

Anyone…?

I see this and I can understand why. The only feature I wanted was the calendar with appointment/b-day/anniversary/etc. management & reminders.

“with appointment/b-day/anniversary/etc. management & reminders” I use Outlook 2002 for this. The calendar has been in Outlook from day one.

The calendar is the same in Outlook and that is what I was using originally the first time. I installed MS Works hoping to fix the problem but no go. I uninstalled MS Works and reinstalled Oultlook 2002 – still same problem. Should I resubmit this query over in the Outlook forum? I am not sure what to do here and don’t wish to double-post.

Sorry about misleading you on Merc’s site. I sure thought I saw one there. Maybe it was Scotterbot. Anyway it has been too long. I can’t find any of the ones I tried before I settled on BarClock. And now I have lost BarClock with my old harddrive. Maybe I will try Outlook again although I didn’t like it when I tried it before. Do suggest you post your problem in the Outlook board.

I am not sure they will support my lengthy .wab & .csv files, though. It works fine on the other machine w/ XPH & did on this unit previously w/ XPH.

(sigh….) I suppose I will uninstall the entire suite of Office XP Pro & all reg traces and start from scratch.

Since you still have the problem, what did you prune from the registry that may have affected the timer?
Have you checked the system time and time zone settings, you could be resetting the time every time you reboot ?

I haven’t altered any reg settings that would interfere w/ the timer or the software. The system time & zone are set at the correct and appropriate settings.

I am confused relating to MS Works suites 2000 and 2002, these (respectively) have been installed on 2 of the 3 machines I use, the only program of any use that comes in these suites has been MS Word, perhaps it is because the purchasers of these notebooks ordered the small business version? I have been reading through the Works area of this forum and find questions relating to converting works files to Excel etc, was or is Excel ever a part of Works? In the past I have never used Works because the old original versioins did not convert to Word happily. Can anyone clarify?

MS Word & MS Excel are not a part of MS Works. Works does include a word processor and a spreadsheet among its suite of applications, but these files are .wps & .xlr Works documents respectively.

Now, although I rarely use it other than the calendar (which is still broken), in Works 2002 I can save word processed documents as .doc to be readable by the latest as well as older versions of MS Word. Spreadsheets can be saved as .xls to be read by MS Excel or as .csv comma separated values.

Hi Bruce, I did not think anyone had an answer for this question. I have discovered that various suppliers offer packages that vary, the Dell machines offering MS Works does come with Word 2002, but not much else of use. The earlier version by Dell, Works 2000 came also with Word 2000 plus Picture it and a couple of other pretty useless programs. But at least Word is worth having. Thanks for the reply. I imagine the packages vary from Manufacturer to Manufacturer. I did wonder about Excel though, because my client whose machine I was setting up, was intent that he had Excel included in the Works package, I had to advise him otherwise…..

Hi Bruce, can you tell me if its the Operating System XP Professional that has bundled with it MS Word, Excel, PPT, Access & Outlook? I saw an ad that implied this was the case? Is this replacing the MS Office professional software suite. Do you know by any chance?

Actually none of the Operating Systems come with applications such as you speak. I think you may mean Office. Now there are different versions of Office XP that include different groups of applications. For example, I have a copy of Office XP Small Business which includes Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, & Outllook Express. Then I have a copy of Office XP Professional which includes Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, FrontPage & Publisher. Then there are a few other versions with different MS apps bundled and some at different levels.

What you are probably looking for is Office XP Professional which is the MS Office professional suite with the ‘official’ XP signature.

PS: Is the works Calendar (yep, your broken one) a replacement for the original Schedule in the MS Office Professional 95 by any chance? I have a client giving me beans wanting the impossible regarding her Diary/Calendar. I had a very quick look at it on one of the laptops Im setting up and it looks the same as the old Schedule 95. Perhaps you might know?

P.S. I never used the Office 95 suite so I don’t know – sorry. I am still trying to locate a user that actually utilizes and knows how the Calendar works.

Hey there Bruce, thank you for the clarification, the Ad gives the impression the suite is included, I figured it had to be too good to be true. But a girl can hope, yes? Ill attach the ad so you can see, tho’ probably not read the programs, but they were the same as Office 97 Professional only 2002. Re: the calendar, pity no one seems to have an answer, it actually looks pretty good considering I have ignored Works completely until this issue came up with a client.

I had forgotten that the poor calendar/alarm was one of the reasons I gave up on Works. You might look for a BarClock program to replace it. That was what I did when I was still using Works. Actually I still use the barclock in place of Outlook. Unfortunately it is a really old shareware and has disappeared from availability. Mercrumudgeon has a good one in his site.
