Microsoft’s being coy about it, but all signs point to the current Fast ring build, 14390, as the “final, final” “RTM” “probably the last” Windows 10

“Final, final” until the next bug is discovered and after the 1st CU, then it will no longer be considered “final”. A little bit more stability is desirable to get people on board Windows 10. Myself after using Windows 10 for 1.5 years since early beta stages, I rolled back my “production” personal computers to Windows 7 until and if Windows 10 becomes really stable and more compatible with existing or updated applications.
My main complaint is about the so called Universal Apps which have never been proved to be suitable for a desktop environment. The reason is that good, old, reliable desktop applications like Calculator are getting incrementally replaced with more limited functionality versions, suitable only for phones. Edge is another example of completely failed design. As much as people here tend to hate Internet Explorer, I don’t think anyone can consider Edge as a competitive browser against IE, Firefox or Chrome.

According to Dona Sarkar from her Twitter account, quote Um…not RTM.

      Thus, coy.

hm… my fast ring copy in VMWare is telling
      “Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview”
“Build 14372.rs1_release.160620-2342” and even after clicking “Check for updates” I am getting back “Your device is up to date”… actually 1st it updated Defender.
Any idea how to get newer version?

Hi,Woody. Coy, or secretive ? Or is that the same thing with Microfail ? 😀

    • #39233

      HA! Good point.

    • #39234

sorry woody. 14390 is NOT the final RTM build.

build 14393 just came out recently as reported on Neowin.net.

Maybe I should know about that fork sculpture, but I’ve never seen it before, and for some reason it strikes me as kind of terrifying.
Is it meant to be an ironic comment on modern America? Or an earnest adornment outside of a tater tot factory or something. 😉

Woody, not sure if you’ve seen this or not —

(I realize that there’s probably always some proposed legislation/lawsuits regarding Microsoft rumbling on, in various EU geographies.
…And good for them for trying to protect consumers and maintain fair competition.)

“France orders Microsoft to stop collecting ‘excessive’ data from Windows 10 users without their consent

France’s privacy watchdog gives the computer giant three months to stop

The company is tracking users’ time spent on apps without their consent

Microsoft has been given three months to stop before facing sanctions

      […]
The privacy watchdog CNIL said the U.S. company had three months to stop tracking browsing by users so that Windows apps and third-party apps can offer them targeted advertising without their consent, failing which it could initiate a sanctions procedure.

      […]
The French watchdog also said that Microsoft puts advertising cookies on users’ terminals without properly informing them beforehand or giving them a chance to opt out.

      […]
The CNIL also said Microsoft was still illegally transferring data to the United States using the Safe Harbour framework, which was struck down by the top EU court in October on concerns about mass U.S. surveillance practices.”

      (unrelated comment)

hmm, i just saw this article about some poo sticks (which i hadn’t known was ever a thing) —

whilst, just to be clear, the inspiration for my username was something quite different 🙂 — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poohsticks

Oh yeah, I saw it – and the comments it’s generated from the fanboi crowd. I’ll have more to say about the technical aspects next week. In short, we have no idea what Microsoft’s collecting, and it looks like Win7 and 8.1 are getting more “telemetry.”

    • #39239

No idea. I just figure it’s done, so stick a fork in it…

    • #39240

Oh! poohsticks…….. I love that! I think you have the same sense of humour and looking at things as your name sake!!! A saying I came across when reading about Christopher Robin et al going to meet the Queen on her 90th Birthday………. was

“People say nothing is impossible – but I do that all the time!”

It all depends on how you look at something……. half full or half empty!!!! LT
