I am using IE 5.50, S/W Bell DSL line and whenever I first access the internet, I receive the following message: “Host was not found, host does not have DNS entry or connection to DNS
server is down”. I then have to go to Tools, Internet Options, connections, and go through the setup to enable the browser. When I use Netscape, version 4.74, I have to go to edit, preferences, advanced, and uncheck manual proxy configuration. I have talked with S/W and they have not been able to give me any help whatsoever. I also tried contacting a computer help line through the local newspaper and his suggestions did not help. Can anyone help me? It only takes a minute or so to do the configuration, but I haven’t always had to do this; it just started in the last several months. We have had the DSL connection since last April. Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like you may be having DHCP issues. I use Verizon DSL and here is the solution the the same problem I had in the early days of my service.
You can eliminate DHCP problems by setting up a dummy IP address. If you have ’95, ’98 or ME, here are the directions. Go the control Panel and click on the network icon. Click on TCP/IP then your ethernet card name to highlight it. Click properties. Click the IP address. Click specify an IP address. Enter the IP address 10.255.255.10 Next enter the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Click OK, then click OK again at the Network window. Restart
