Is it possible to activate the browser address field on my Home page using keyboard shortcut keys rather than using the mouse, RSI is creeping in I fear.
I took a screen shot of my home page, [To point to the box in question just in case my terminology was wrong] copied it into a Word file & tried to attach it but was informed it was too big. How should I save such a screen shot so as to be able to attach it to a thread as a picture can instantly say more than a lot of words. S Fox

AskWoody MVPOctober 11, 2007 at 2:55 pm #1079099You didn’t really say which operating system & browser you are using. See List of the keyboard shortcuts that are available in Windows XP for a complete list. You want CTRL+O.
See A Guide to Attaching Screenshots for instructions on screenshots. You can use any graphics program on your PC to make the screenshot an appropriate size.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 12, 2007 at 1:15 am #1079232Sincere apologies for not making myself clear, I have tried twice to answer this thread but each time I have got as far as “Check Spelling” I have lost the entire text so I will be brief. Sorry for asking two questions, I am using Firefox as I was told it is more secure than I.E. If I open Firefox having set ti to do so with a blank page, it opens with the cursor blinking in the address field. GREAT as all I have to do is hit the Alt key, hit the left arrow key three time which takes me to “Bookmarks” on the tool bar then use the down arrow key to scroll to the web site I want to access and hit “Enter”. So I open the desired web site without having touched the mouse. My question arose out of the fact that if I set Firefox to open with our church web site as the home page there is no cursor blinking so I have to use the mouse to activate the address field before I can paste the URL of the site I want to visit. A nuisance, as I am trying to make the mouse redundant. As for the attachment aspect of the thread I shall read the suggested threads and acquaint myself with the advice given. Thanks again S Fox

AskWoody LoungerOctober 12, 2007 at 9:09 pm #1079347Thank you HansV (& others who considerately responded to my question) I never thought for a moment that the Fire Fox “Help” tab would include the answer to my question, Just what the doctor ordered as I am on a mission to make my mouse as redundant as possible and all three of the shortcuts you stated work just fine. [Though I can’t see why they would allocate three shortcuts for the same function] But that is by the way, the main thing is they provide me with just what I have been looking for, for ages. Now I must acquaint myself with the answers on the forum that explain how to take screen shots that are no more than 100 KB as I regard it a big plus to be able to send attachments which can convey in a moment what may take numerous sentences to explain. In the past I have asked questions on the http://www.microsoft.com/office/community forum but sadly, it does not cater for attachments. A thousand thanks again for your responses. S Fox

Do you mean you click on ‘Check Spelling’ and the text you have written is lost? That doesn’t sound right!
Personally, I never bother with it as FF2’s built-in spell-checker gives an instant indication of mis-spelt words and typo’s , AND allows you to add (correct!) British English words.
I generally go straight to Preview, then Post It.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 12, 2007 at 9:52 pm #1079349I would suggest pasting into a program such as irfanview instead of Word. You can paste the screenshot into irfanview, draw box around the section of the screen you want to show, press ctrl+y to crop the image to your box and then ctrl+R to resize the image to less than 800 X 640 ( I think that’s the Lounge’s recommended size). The attached image is approx 18kb

AskWoody LoungerOctober 12, 2007 at 10:38 pm #1079360Thanks for the info; slow learner I’m afraid; silver surfer; getting there slowly; so many responses they take time to answer but genuinely want to acknowledge every offer of advice. Really do thank the day I stumbled on this forum, it has proved so interesting and beneficial. Must point my friends here as everyone is so helpful. Though I must say for an oldie who has spent all his life handling things like picks, shovels, hammers, nails, planes & drills, all this highly technical stuff……..
(only .au .avi .bmp .doc .docx .emf .gif .gz .jpeg .jpg .mid .mov .mp3 .mpg .pdf .png .ppt .pptx .ra .rm .rtf .snd .tar .txt .wav .xar .xls .xlsx .zip)………..is quite daunting.S Fox.
