Fabled RepairTuber and right to repair crusader Louis Rossmann has shared a new video encapsulating his surprise, and disappointment, that Brother has morphed into an “anti-consumer printer company.”..two issues being new firmware disabling third party toner, and preventing (on color devices) color registration functionality…

..he admits that he used to tell long-suffering HP or Canon printing device owners faces with cartridge DRM issues “Buy a brother laser printer for $100 and all of your woes will be solved.”..

Brother denies using firmware updates to brick printers with third-party ink

..We are aware of the recent false claims suggesting that a Brother firmware update may have restricted the use of third-party ink cartridges. Please be assured that Brother firmware updates do not block the use of third-party ink in our machines…

    * I had an AIO Samsung color laser printer and was warned by the seller not to update firmware as it will block using 3rd party toner.

I don’t update my current Canon MegaTank firmware printer for the same reason

You may notice that something is missing. Right, there is no first-hand proof. Rossman does not appear to have verified the claims, as no information is provided regarding local tests.

My ten year old Brother mono laser printer has never been updated with anything except toner and never sees the Internet.  It still works fine (knock on wood) but then I really don’t do a lot of printing either.

Being 20 something in the 70's was so much better than being 70 something in the insane 20's
