Broken Search for Files (XP)

My “search for files or folders,” specifically, the “search for text in” seems to be broken —
My 2000 machine finds the database that contains the entry.

I tested with a couple of variations on the search and had to select the directory anew each time, so I don’t think the problem is an inadvertent error on my part.

Does anyone know of an XP “search for files or folders” problem?

I don’t know of any particular problem with the search for files or folders feature in XP, But…

I’m not quite sure just what problem you are having. Could you give a little more detailed description?

Well, I may have been mistaken. A co-worker said that he didn’t think I could search against a UNC path, when searching for text _within_ a file, not searching for files themselves. I insisted that I was able to search on my 2000 machine, and tried again — and found no hits when running the search again from the 2000 machine, so maybe I was wrong about the 2000 working.

Searching against a local copy of the database found the string.

Does any of this make sense to you?
