I recently D/L this to a flash drive thinking it might be handy sometime. That sometime came yesterday when I discovered that our church secretary had used my office computer while her machine was out for repair. Every program she would have needed was on there but she installed a full data backup of HER computer, installed 2 other printers, AND MS Office 2007. My poor ole Dell with very little memory would barely boot, and then would just sit there so I couldn’t get to control panel and certainly couldn’t download the installed version of Revo. It took 5 hours of work to get rid of the printers and Office 2007, but Revo did the job and my machine is down to its underwear now, with just what I use. Guess who is changing their password!!

Hi Barbara, this will give pointers for future use.

Thanks Roderunner, looks like a good piece to have on hand. I found the program pretty intuitive, and it really did the job.

The only limitation I have found with the free version of Revo Uninstaller is that it only works with 32 Bit apps. To uninstall 64 Bit apps requires the paid version. I like Revo so much I purcashed the Pro version.

I’m sorry, but this is simply not true. I use the free version of Revo on 64 bit Windows 7 all the time. It might be that it won’t work on 64 bit XP, but that is a different problem having nothing to do with 64 vs 32 bit OS’s.

          You are wrong.

Yes, Free Revo will work on 64 bit machines, both XP and Win 7.
but a 64 bit machine is not a 64 bit App.

When Free Revo is used on a 64 bit machine it repeats the lies it is told by Windows.
When it thinks it is removing a file from C:Windowssystem32 it is actually removing from C:WindowsSysWOW64

When you install a 32 bit app in a 64 bit Windows then what should go in system32 actually goes in SysWOW64 due to Windows deception.
Free Revo removes 32 bit App files which really live in SysWOW64, because the App and Free Revo are rerouted by Windows.
A 32 bit App cannot see System32 as such, it needs to use a different name which I forget.

I am sure that Free Revo can attempt to uninstall a 64 bit App, but it will ignore and leave anything in the genuine System32 folder.
This is absolutely useless if you need a perfect purge to permit a clean install of an update.

I suggest you download both 32 bit and 64 bit portable versions of the freeware “Quad File Viewer” QDIR.
You can unzip them in different folders and run them simultaneously.
Look at what they display as the contents of C:WindowsSystem32.
On my 64 bit Windows 7 using the 64 bit QDIR I see :-
2.8 GB in 13,376 Files in 1,285 Folders in System32, and
1.0 GB in 4,565, Files in 317 Folders in SysWOW64.
but using the 32 bit QDIR there is no SysWOW64, but
1.0 GB in 4,565, Files in 317 Folders in System32

Actually, that’s incorrect. I’m running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit right now, and am using the free version of Revo Uninstaller, and it works just fine.

Then I guess I was lucky in that the machine in trouble was a 5 year old XP so wouldn’t have any 64 bit apps, but that is something to remember now that we have new Win7 computers with 64 bit.

What would I do without you guys!!

“Punt” 😆 Have a great weekend.

Thank you Alan. As you have so adequately stated, Win 7 64 Bit is NOT the same as a 64 Bit app. Revo Uninstaller free works on Win 7 64 Bit and will very nicely clean 32 Bit apps. It however will not see 64 Bit apps. See this comparison directly from Revo Uninstaller. In fact you can download the Pro version and try it free for 30 days. There you will see the ddifferences from free to pro.

Thank you Ted, like some others I thought it worked fine on my 64bit W7 but often wondered why it was not showing some of the programs that Windows uninstaller showed. It just shows I should look more carefully at the comparisons and perhaps use the space between my ears more rigorously.
I have now downloaded the trial Pro version and initial impressions indicate I will probably anti-up before the 30 days runs its course.

Carroll, see the previous 2 posts. Yes Revo Uninstaller free runs fine on 64 Bit Win 7, BUT it will not uninstall 64 Bit apps, just 32 Bit apps. That is one of the features exclusive to the Revo uninstaller Pro version. If you check your Revo Uninstaller free, then download the 30 day trial version of Revo Uninstaller Pro you will see the differences. Unfortunately the 2 versions cannot co-exist on the same PC at the same time. The Pro version replaces the free version so to go back you would have to uninstall the Pro version and reinstall the free version.

You are very welcome greytech. Glad I could clear thus up for you.

I hate to ask the obvious (or beg Revo for the obvious), but is there such a thing as Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable (yet)?

This thread has me climbing the walls, as I already have two registered copies of Revo Pro and was about to spring for a third (at what was expected to be half-price), but I am a single user and this is getting expensive. Revo Pro on a flash drive would be great.

A Google searchshows several alternatives. I cannot vouch for any of the sites however.
