The filename caught my eye because it implies Brave will run on 32-bit Windows. That surprised me because, IIRC, Brave has only supported 64-bit Windows for at least a few years now.

So I downloaded “brave-v1.68.118-win32-x64.zip” and tested it in a VM. It ran fine in a x64 Win10 VM, but trying to run it in a x32 Win10 VM resulted in an error: “This app is not supported on your PC”.

So my conclusion is the zip filename is a misnomer and Brave is still a x64-only app.

FWIW (since the the title of this topic is “Brave portable“), if it’s the portable version you want, a better and less confusing link is github.com/portapps/brave-portable/releases. Choose either the “.7z” or the “..setup.exe” download. (The 5MB download is just a stub, and I’m not sure what the “..installer..” download is but it doesn’t seem to install a fully functional browser.)

And BTW, if you’re using Win7 you can scroll down to ver. 1.47, which does still run on x64 Win7.

True x86 version may be possible with x86 hardware, rather than a VM?

        Windows

BraveBrowserNightlySetup.exe will fetch and install the latest available version for your CPU architecture from our update servers.

I guess it depends on what you consider “old”. I deliberately stay away from the bleeding edge and avoid betas and nightly builds. Github/portapps seems to stick to stable versions only, so I still content it is the less confusing place to look if you want a portable version.

some versions include 32-bit builds, you should look for the ones that end with “-win32-ia32.zip” (“ia” stands for “intel architecture”), e. g. brave-v1.68.117-win32-ia32.zip

Ah, so it does! That does indeed run in a x32 Win 10 VM. Thanks, misuser8, that’s good info to know for future reference.
