Boot up problem

Hi

I went to long onto my pc yesterday and received the following message and can now not get any further booting up

“While initializing device IOS:
Error: Real mode system memory allocation failed”

Any one have any ideas
My System is an Intel 466 Celeron, 128mb RAM

Just a guess, maybe hardware failure?

“Real mode system memory ” is the RAM; as opposed to “Virtual memory” which is allocated on hard disk.

I would agree with Terry – it sounds like a problem with your RAM.

If you know your way round the inside of your PC, you could try removing and replacing the RAM cards – instructions and static/safety warnings should have been supplied with the PC. It may just be a bad or corroded connector.

If you have 2 x 64MB cards, you could try removing one at a time – making sure you always have one in the first slot – and see if you can isolate a single fault.
